A blended-learning qualification designed to support the GDC Scope of Practice for Dental Nurses. Five theory modules, 15-question MCQs, written tasks, a clinical logbook and case studies - all in one place.
Work through theory at your own pace, pass each module's MCQ, then move on to written tasks and your practical logbook. Your assessor is notified when you submit work and will provide feedback at each stage.
Five modules covering fluoride science, patient assessment, clinical application, professional law, and managing fluoride refusal. Read the content, then sit the 15-question MCQ to unlock the next module.
Three written tasks unlocked after completing all modules. Download the task document, complete offline, and upload your answers directly in the platform.
A 10-entry clinical logbook covering all required patient groups, two case studies, and an end-of-course reflective account - all submitted through the platform.
Each module must be completed and its MCQ passed before the next unlocks. Written and practical work unlock once all five theory modules are complete.
No exams. Assessment is through MCQs, written tasks, your clinical logbook, and a final reflective account. All submitted and reviewed online.
A 15-question multiple choice quiz at the end of each module. You must pass before moving to the next module. You can retake if needed.
Three written tasks on consent, GDC registrant responsibilities, and fluoride science. Download the task sheet, complete it, and upload your answers.
Log each supervised fluoride varnish application, including patient group, caries risk, product used, prescription confirmation, medical considerations and reflection. Upload completed logbook pages.
Two extended case studies covering full patient assessment, consent, application technique, challenges and reflection. Upload as part of your practical portfolio.
A final reflective account drawing on your learning and clinical experience across the course. Written directly in the platform or uploaded as a document.
The GDC confirms that dental nurses may apply fluoride varnish under the prescription of a dentist, or as part of a structured dental health programme, provided they are appropriately trained, competent and indemnified. This qualification supports all three requirements. It remains the responsibility of each individual dental nurse to ensure they are trained, competent and appropriately indemnified before undertaking this procedure.
The NHS Amendment Regulations 2026 (in force 1 April 2026) formally recognise standalone fluoride varnish delivery by a dental nurse as an NHS course of treatment. This qualification positions you to take on that role.
